CLEP exams are offered at various times on Monday-Friday throughout the school year and summer. The only weeks that CLEP tests are not administered are during Finals Week of both the Fall and Spring semester.

Each CLEP test is $130 total, broken down in the following way:

  • NON-REFUNDABLE $50 Registration Fee, payable to Liberty University (cash, check, or credit card), due when your form is turned in to reserve a computer. Please note, the fee is increased to $60 if trying to gain exemption from ENGL 102 because there is an additional $10 essay that must be ordered by the university two weeks in advance of the test date.
  • A fee of $80 is charged before students come to the Testing Center when they pay for their exam on the College Board website ( See the “Registration Procedures” below for more information

Registration Procedures

When you are ready to take a CLEP test, please fill out a Registration Form. After you fill out the form, you will not receive a confirmation email. The day and time that you selected will set your appointment for you unless you hear from the Supervisor of Testing Services.

There are three easy steps to taking CLEP exams:

Step 1: When you are ready to take your CLEP exam, go to and pay for the exam by creating a My Account. The CLEP fee is $80. After you pay, you will need to print your Registration Ticket and bring it with you on the day of your exam.

Step 2: Fill out the Registration Form to make an appointment to take your test.

Step 3: On your test day, come to the Testing Center with two forms of ID (Primary ID must have a photo AND a signature – A driver’s license works great, secondary ID can have either a picture OR a signature – Student ID, passport, and birth certificate are some examples). Also, please bring $50 to cover the Liberty fee, payable with cash, check, or card.

Please also review the following Check-In Policies before you come to take your exam.
That’s it! After following these three steps, you can take your exam.

Changes, Cancelations, and Retaking Exams

  • You may change the test you take, as long as it is at your appointed time. If you cannot keep your appointment, you must cancel and re-register by contacting Testing Services at
  • You must wait at least 3 months to retake a CLEP exam. This is a CLEP requirement.
