Program Status Check

Application Requirements

  • Degree Completion Plan Audit
    • 3.0 Cumulative GPA (2.5 Cumulative GPA is required for MED: Teaching & Learning candidates).
    • Completion of at least 9 credit hours.
  • Proof of Purchase of Background Check/Fingerprinting
    • Criminal Background
    • FBI Fingerprints
    • Virginia Child Abuse Clearances
  • Acknowledgement of Licensure Requirements
  • Additional Requirements for Licensure Candidates
    • Gate 2 Exams (for initial licensure candidates only - including Ed.S. and Ed.D. candidates adding initial licensure to their program)
    • Acknowledgement of Field Experience Summary (FES) Requirements
    • Proof of Content Competency Evaluation (for initial licensure in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, and Secondary Education only)

Application Submission

Application must be completed and submitted using the system outlined in the instructions.

Before you may register for EDUC 554 or EDUC 625 and before you may submit your Gate 3 application, your Gate 2 application must be submitted, reviewed, and approved. For initial licensure candidates, this means that you must have passing test scores for the VCLA and Praxis Core Math (or application exemption assessment) well in advance of submitting your application. Testing involves about a two month or more turn-around time to receive official score sheets, so plan accordingly.

Application Deadline

Prior to registration for EDUC 554/625 or submission of Gate 3 application.

Application Review

Your application will be reviewed by the Gate Office within two weeks of your submission. You will receive an email from the Gate Office indicating your application status. This email will provide further instructions according to your status.

Application Status

Full Approval

  • You have met all of the requirements for Gate 2 for Program Status Check and should begin to prepare for Gate 3 requirements.
  • You will be able to register for the appropriate classes through ASIST within 24–48 hours of your acceptance.

Cautionary Approval

  • You have met conditional submission on one or more Gate 2 requirements. You must review conditional items and plan to meet full approval of requirements in preparation for Gate 3, in addition to all other Gate 3 requirements
  • You will be able to register for the appropriate classes through ASIST within 24–48 hours of your acceptance.
