Student Research Presentation Awards

Purpose

Supports travel expenses for student researchers who have been accepted to present their research at an external event (e.g., a conference, symposium, or exhibition). Students awarded travel funding must travel to the conference and be a significant contributor to the research project/creative work. The approved award will have a threshold of up to $2,000 per student,

Award Criteria

  • The student(s) must be presenting research as a significant contributor to the research project/creative work in a formal presentation at a discipline conference/meeting/exhibition, and a significant portion of the research has been conducted while enrolled at Liberty. The student(s) should be a current Liberty University student at the time of acceptance as a presenter.
  • The student must have a faculty sponsor overseeing his/her research.
  • The student should be in good academic standing and student conduct standing.
  • If possible, travel dates should take place within the FY that the award is given.
  • The student(s) will be asked to submit:
    • Proof of acceptance as a presenter at the intended conference/meeting/exhibition before funds will be dispersed.
    • Copy of the abstract submitted to the event.

Follow-Up Expectations

The student(s) receiving this award will need to submit a final report within four weeks of the event. This report will need to include a reflective essay (please see below for content for essay) describing his/her experience at the event and three photos from the event. At least one of the photos should include an image of the student (i.e. selfies are acceptable) at the conference venue. Please include the name and dates of conference, home department, award funding amount, award expended amount.

Reflection Essay

Your essay should be approximately 500 words and address the following points:

  • What research knowledge and skills did you gain from the presentation experience and conference events? How might you incorporate them into your future research endeavors?
  • How has this experience influenced your understanding of the academic discipline and profession and contributed to potential future academic and professional opportunities?

Sponsorship Acknowledgment

Any publication, presentation, public recital, exhibition, or other public display of the student’s work made possible through this research award must include an appropriate acknowledgment of the sponsoring department i.e. Center for Research & Scholarship, the College of Osteopathic Medicine, The Graduate School, Fulbright Program, or the Center for Academic Development.
