Mrs. Alford graduated from Liberty University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences specializing in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Business Administration. Mary completed her MBA, June 2006, at Liberty University. She is continuing her education and is pursuing her doctorate through Walden University and expecting to graduate in 2011 with a Doctorate of Business.

Mrs. Alford has worked in several facets of the textile industry which included corporate buyer, corporate merchandiser, inventory control specialist in the fabric and children’s manufacturing industries. After several years in the industry, Mrs. Simpson-Alford changed careers and has worked in the banking industry for the last 14 years. She has held a number of positions that include: marketing, collections, credit decisions, bank-line agreements, compliance issues and a number of other positions. Her last position was with American Express as a commercial paper trader and managed the Global Treasury website for Amex’s corporate intranet site. 

Over the last number of years she also has owned and operated several smaller companies that include wedding and design consulting, craft business, and a web entrepreneur business.  Mrs. Simpson-Alford also ran a small six figure transportation company.

God led Mrs. Alford in a new direction by leaving corporate America in 2006 and moving to Lynchburg to teach at Liberty University. After much prayer and contemplation, she has taken on a new role in teaching in the Family and Consumer Science department as an Assistant Professor; she is utilizing 20 years of professional work and personal experiences and combining with book knowledge. In 2008, she was promoted to Department Chair. 

Mrs. Alford enjoys a number of hobbies and interests which include: traveling abroad, scuba diving (NAUI certified), competitive trap shooting, flying, golf, cooking, entertaining, antiques, photography, painting and drawing, computer graphics and animation, decorating, gardening, sewing and many other diverse activities. 

Mrs. Alford grew up in a Christian home and came to know Christ at the early age of seven. She has continually worked in churches as an activities leader, choir/soloist, pianist, college ministry, women’s ministry speaker and instructor.
