Proud To Be A Liberty Flame!September 4, 2013
During the first hour that I was on campus, I had an unexpected interaction with one of the staff at Liberty. I was walking down the sidewalk towards campus with my dad when a man wearing a Liberty polo stopped us. He asked how we were doing, but he was so genuine in asking and really wanted to know. We had a great conversation with him about the start of the new year but it didn't end there. He went back to his truck and offered us two cold waters, explaining that we needed to stay hydrated in the summer heat. It was an incredible first impression of Liberty and afterward my dad turned to me and simply said, "son, this is the right place for you to be".
The process of moving in and getting settled involved very little stress, thanks to all of the student leadership that jumped in to help (whether that was carrying a huge suitcase or answering all the questions I could think of). I connected with my RA right off that bat and was anticipating a great semester in the dorms already. It didn't take long to get situated and I spent the rest of the evening exploring campus.
My first Friday here I got a taste of what an average school day would feel like through my freshman seminar and other similar classes. I also attended my very first Convocation! Johnnie Moore talked about the importance of being prepared and it was an incredibly inspiring message. Hearing the Liberty Campus Band was also a great first.
Finally, it was Monday and my semester officially began. Those first two days of classes I met all of my professors and took note of the best route to each class. I discovered, right off that bat, that my professors have great senses of humor and are easy to follow along with. After those two days I was so thankful and excited to be at Liberty.
Every day I've been here, I've learned so much and feel comfortable just walking up to the professors and having a conversation after class (they all made their open door policies very known the first day). There has also been so many great events happening on campus like the block party, outdoor movie nights, tubing on the James river, and a lot more.
These are all definitely the right ingredients for a great first semester in college. Liberty has so many great opportunities and I can't wait to write about all of them as they come my way.
