First Week at LibertyAugust 6, 2012
I know the date is quickly approaching when freshman and transfer students can move into the residence halls and start their life at Liberty. I had no idea what to expect when I came so I thought I would ease some of your anxiety of the unknown. The first thing you will see when you get to your residence hall is an army of people willing to help you move in. Everyone on leadership in your residence hall will be anxious for your arrival and more than willing to help you move everything into your room. So don’t stress about how you are going to get everything in because it will be a breeze!
The second thing you need to remember is that you are not the only one who’s new. There are thousands of other students who are nervous about their first week and wondering if they will make friends or not. Go out of your comfort zone and ask someone if they want to have a meal with you or go find where your classes will be. There’s a good chance that they wanted to ask you, but they were too nervous! The great thing about the leadership in the residence halls is that most likely every evening your hall mates and your brother/sister dorm will be going to dinner together at the Rot (what we call the cafeteria) and you will meet so many new people doing that! Everything might feel a bit scary the first week but after that you will feel like you’ve been at Liberty forever and you will have figured some things out! You will meet great people in your freshman seminar and learn all about campus!
The third thing that is important to know is that there are more activities to do your first week than there is time! Starting Wednesday the 15th there is karaoke, midnight movie showing, back to school bash, Chancellor’s cookout and so much more! Check out the Student Activities calendar for exact time for all those events. Your first week is going to be a blast so don’t stress or panic about coming to college! Always remember Deuteronomy 31:8 "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” The leadership in your residence hall has been praying for you by name this summer and you are already loved and prayed for at Liberty! Get excited because the best years of your life are ahead of you!!
