ATV Safety CourseMarch 7, 2012
There have been times since I came to Liberty that I found myself saying “We never do anything adventurous!” I’ve heard that there were fun things to do here but I had never experienced it for myself. So I went on a search for the things to do here that are out of the ordinary. Last week I went to Ivy Lake with my roommate for my first adventure and this weekend I took an ATV safety course with one of the other student blogger’s Kimi! Student Activities is a department at Liberty that organizes events (concerts, coffeehouse), recreational activities and much more. Their facilities include Ivy Lake, the Equestrian center, hiking trails, disc golf course, motocross, ATVs, and Bow Hunting. I don’t know of many other schools that can offer all of those things! Hopefully over the next few months I will be able to participate in some of those activities (I think bow hunting might be too much of an adventure for me!)
This past year, Student Activities added the use of ATVs to their list of activities they offer. In order to use the ATVs you have to take a safety course up on Liberty Mountain with an instructor. The steps to riding the ATVs is that you have to take the safety course, get your membership card and then whenever you want to rent an ATV you have to do so 24 hours in advanced! So this past Saturday, Kimi, her roommate and myself headed up there for the course. I had no idea what to expect because riding an ATV is something completely new to me. If you talk to any of my friends or my mom, they would tell you that seeing me on an ATV (or anything involving mud) is a rare sight. I decided that this semester I would get out of my comfort zone and get a little muddy!! Hopefully after spring break I will go up there and get on an ATV!
