Thank you for sharing your story. I am a new student here at LU and I came across your story and it made me realize that I too have been struggling with this. I often feel like I am not good enough because I always feel like I am one step behind everyone. I do not get to enjoy my successes when they happen because someone else got to the next level and I am still stuck. I grew up in a poorer family but we grew up with so much love and what we had, we cherished. Since then, I have fought my way “up” and now that I have a good career and doing well, I want to make more and do more so that my children do not have to start at the point that I did. The thing is that while I was doing that, I lost myself trying to provide for my family instead of giving them time. 6 years ago my house flooded and we lost everything we owned and that was the worst and best thing that has ever happened to me. It made us realize that we didn’t need any of it accept for each other. I also realized that my job didn’t care what happened to my family as long as I was at work making them money. We learned and grew a lot. Now, Time to me means more than money. I will do my job, enjoy my family and focus on our happiness because it can all be gone at a moment’s notice.

I am reading an interesting book for my devotionals on this topic: Tilly Dillehay (2018) Seeing Green: Don't Let Envy Color Your Joy.

Wow. I'm impressed by your openness on jealousy. I'm sure we have all had the opportunity to be jealous in our lives, but not many are bold enough to confess it as sin. This monster of a spirit called jealousy, tries to turn our focus away from the goodness of God and unto ourselves. We all need to recognize it whenever it tries to grip us and quickly look for ways to share the love of God. Thank you for sharing your heart.
