Purpose Statement

The Office of Equity and Inclusion promotes diversity in our academic and professional community.  This is accomplished through Biblically qualified efforts in the development of growth-focused programming, the establishment of impartial initiatives, and the education of inclusive excellence principles.

Our History

The Minority & International Student Office (MISO), recognized today as, the Office of Equity & Inclusion, was founded in 1992 by Greg Dowell and Bruce Traeger, former Dean and Associate Vice President of Student Development.

Dowell and Traeger established this office in response to student requests for an office that would; facilitate the specific needs of minority and international students and plan programs of equity and inclusion for Liberty’s student body.

MISO had humble beginnings with the organization of a peer-mentoring program responsible for hosting Black History events and planning an annual international food festival.

MISO underwent a major reorganization in April 2004 with the inception of the C. Daniel Kim International Student Center (ISC). This center was established to specifically meet the needs of the international student population and this initiative opened the door for the restructuring of MISO.

MISO was renamed the Center for Multicultural Enrichment to better reflect and affirm our purpose statement of promoting unity and celebrating cultural diversity.

In Spring 2018, The Center for Multicultural Enrichment underwent an exciting transition. Liberty University hired Greg Dowell as the Vice President for Equity & Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer, establishing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at our institution. Now as the Office of Equity and Inclusion, we serve the entire campus community to maintain the biblical advancement of impartial and inclusive principles.

Liberty University is committed to supporting equity and inclusion campuswide. The Office of Equity & Inclusion is growing and we are always looking for ways to increase diversity and unity among the student and professional population.
