Parking Regulations and Fines
Anyone wishing to park a motor vehicle or bicycle on property owned or controlled by the University must obtain a Liberty University parking decal. Obtaining a decal does not guarantee a convenient parking space. Lack of a convenient parking space is not a valid excuse for violation of any regulation. You may have to walk a distance or ride the shuttle – so plan extra time.
University parking rules and regulations are in effect year-round, including periods when classes are not in session. ALL parking lots are subject to closure to all students, faculty, and staff during special events.
Chargeable Offenses
It is not possible to mark with signs or paint all the areas of University property where parking and/or stopping is prohibited. However, the following guidelines will be strictly enforced and can result in towing of that vehicle (with the exception of “non-emergency repairs”), and other administrative actions. - Without a valid permit
- In double-parked situations
- In reserved spaces without a proper permit
- In “No Parking” areas, or blocking doorways
- In loading zones (unless actually loading or unloading), service entrances, or construction areas
- On the lawn, sidewalks, or crosswalks
- In parking lot driveways
- Straddling painted lines
- Exceeding the time in time-limited areas
- In areas where permit is not valid
- Adjacent to or over yellow lines or curbs
- In or adjacent to fire lines or within 10 feet of a fire hydrant
- In buildings, including entries, stairs, rooms, or halls (bicycles and motorcycles)
- In any roadway or lane of traffic
- Outside a marked space in any parking lot
- Illegal parking in a handicapped space
- Failure to report a change in license plate
- Improper display of decal
- Possession of a counterfeit, altered, lost, or stolen parking decal; fraudulently using a permit; or fraudulently using or in possession of another’s decal + appropriate disciplinary action
- Moving barricades, traffic cones, or other traffic control devices for parking or to drive through an area
- Not registering a vehicle within the allotted time
- Performing non-emergency repairs
- Parking in a Tow Zone
Parking of a Vehicle
Vehicles must be parked between two lines or space markers on a paved parking lot. The fact that one motor vehicle is parked in such a manner as to occupy more than one parking space is not an acceptable excuse for another vehicle to do the same. This includes all motorcycles and mopeds.
The same rules pertain to motorcycles as to other motor vehicles, with the exception that motorcycles and mopeds may be parked in one regular parking space. Motorcycles, mopeds, scooters, and bicycles shall not be parked in a building or within 10 feet of a building unless a parking area has been designated.
Vehicles are not allowed in areas or spaces closed by the use of barricades, traffic cones, or other traffic control devices unless properly authorized. If a vehicle is found parked in such a spot, it will be subject to towing and impoundment.
If you are unable to find a space in your designated lot or lots, over flow parking will be located on East Campus in the Doc’s Diner lot.
Disabled Vehicles
Any disabled vehicle MUST BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY TO LUPD BY CALLING 434-582-7641, or 434-582-3911 for EMERGENCIES ONLY.
A disabled vehicle must be removed from Liberty’s property within 48 hours of the incident to prevent a parking citation, towing, or impoundment. Any vehicle in a fire lane or handicap space must be moved immediately.
Any person wanting to repair his vehicle may not use University property, except for emergency repairs. Any individual temporarily operating a different vehicle than is already registered with LUPD while their vehicle is being repaired must obtain a temporary parking permit within two business days.
