Mike was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area of Florida; St. Petersburg & Largo. As a young child, a family neighbor invited him to their church, First Baptist of Indian Rocks. It was through the Gospel influence of that church that Mike received Christ as His Savior and Lord.
In 1990, he graduated from the University of South Florida with a BS in Management Information Systems and then went to work for EDS as a Systems Engineer. After six years with EDS and serving as a lay leader in local church youth ministries, he was called by the Lord to fulltime pastoral ministry.
In 1997, he moved to Lynchburg, enrolled at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and began serving in the youth ministries of Thomas Road Baptist Church. While in seminary, he married a Liberty University (LU) student, Kym Johnson, and also became the Assistant Registrar at LU. Mike graduated in 2000 with a MDiv.
Before joining the Campus Pastor team at LU in 2012, he was Pastor of Student Ministries and Adult Education at Perimeter Road Baptist Church, Valdosta, GA; then Pastor of Educational Ministries at Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown, PA; followed by Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Warren, PA.
Mike is passionate about people knowing Christ and becoming more like Christ, based on God’s Holy Word (e.g. Philippians 3:8-14), all to the glory of God. Mike and Kym have three sons and one daughter; Luke, Joshua, Zachary, and Elle.
