Professor

Dr. Gary Yates is Professor of Old Testament and the Program Director for the Master of Theology program. He holds a Ph.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary. He has taught at Liberty since 2003 and has been involved in higher education since 2000. Dr. Yates pastored churches in Kansas and Virginia prior to becoming a professor and he currently serves as the pastor of a local church in addition to his teaching responsibilities. His special areas of research and writing include OT Prophets, Psalms, Biblical Theology, Hebrew, and Old Testament Introduction. He has authored/co-authored ‘Urban Legends of the Old Testament’ (B&H), The Message of the Twelve’ (B&H), and ‘The Essence of the Old Testament’ (B&H), and has contributed numerous articles and chapters to other works.

Dr. Yates and his wife Marilyn have three children. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and following baseball and college basketball.
