My Thanks In Writing

When I was fifteen years old, my mom wrote me a thank-you note for something I had done around the house.  I still have that note tucked away in an album.

I have lots of notes from my wife and children that are precious and I will keep those forever.  I have kept several "thank-you" notes over the years from friends, coworkers, and bosses.  On occasion, I pull out one of notes and am reminded of God's provision of encouragement and grace.

How do you express your thanks?  Sometimes, our spoken word may not be sufficient to get the message across to those who appreciate.  During this Thanksgiving and upcoming Christmas season, I challenge you to write a thank-you note.  Perhaps 2 or 3.  You can do this.

Consider writing your pastor, professors, loved ones, neighbors, a co-worker or supervisor.

Tips:

  • Look for opportunities to write a thank-you note.  Be deliberate.  Instead of texting or sending an email, pull out a thank-you card and write it out.
  • Be specific.  Example "Thank you for visiting with me on Thursday.  I enjoyed our time and conversation immensely."
  • Keep it short.  No need to write a book.

Verses to consider including in a thank-you note:

  • 1 Corinthians 1:4, "I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus."
  • 2 Timothy 1:3, "I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day."
  • Philippians 1:3, "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you"

Online Community, please share with us how you have been encouraged by a thank-you note.  Readers can also share any helpful tips.  See Comments below.

God bless.
