‘Tis the season to hit the malls and pick out the perfect Christmas gifts for your loved ones!
If you’re competitive, you are thinking “I want to give the BEST gift possible to my friends, parents, siblings,” and so on. However, even if you succeed in getting them the gift that was at the top of their wish list, you will still be “out-gifted” by the ultimate Gift-Giver of all time — Jesus Christ.
John 15:13 says, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
This Christmas, as you go about your holiday shopping and exchanging of gifts, be reminded of Christ’s gift to us — the gift of salvation through His death on the cross and resurrection. It is the most beautiful, life-changing gift of all time.
Braxton Carney is a ninth-grade student at Liberty University Online Academy. He lives with his parents and two sisters in Malawi, Africa.
His parents are directors of an orphanage that houses nine children. In addition to that ministry, they also take care of many widows and other children in the community.
There is never a dull moment in the Carney household, and Braxton says he wouldn’t have it any other way. Between caring for, and playing with, the children in the orphanage, talking to family members in the United States, and completing schoolwork, Braxton stays busy!
In his downtime though, he enjoys reading and baking.
One day, Braxton would like to become a full-time missionary or run his own bakery.
We are happy that he is a part of the Academy family!
Q: As a high school student, when should I take the PSAT and SAT or ACT in preparation for college?
Lorrie Brooks, who holds a degree in elementary education, is one of our middle school teachers and brings six years of experience to Liberty University Online Academy.
She has a heart for traveling and has taught around the world in places such as Thailand and Mexico City. Her love for traveling and adventure once led her to walk the rim of an active volcano in Bali, Indonesia!
In her free time, Lorrie enjoys hiking, all things outdoors, and pursuing her relationship with Jesus Christ.
She and her husband of six years have a two-year-old daughter, Raeleigh, and are looking forward to welcoming a little boy into the family in December.
Her favorite verse is 2 Corinthians 9:6, which says, “He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall also reap bountifully.”
For Lorrie, every day is a new adventure.
