Military Events - Guest Speaker in Convocation

Military Emphasis Week

Purpose

The purpose of Military Emphasis Week (MEW) at Liberty University is to raise the awareness of and appreciation for those who have served and are serving in the United States military. At Liberty University, we have always had a heart for those serving in our Armed Forces and do not take for granted the sacrifice they make to secure our nation’s values and freedoms. Our founder, the late Dr. Jerry Falwell, always led by example, demonstrating the consistency of Christianity, patriotism and love of country. Military Emphasis Week seeks to carry on this legacy.

History

Military Emphasis Week was once a one-day event on campus and has now been expanded to a week-long event in order to give greater visibility, support and recognition to our military and veterans. Events are planned throughout campus during this week to show appreciation for the men and women who have served and are serving this great nation.

One highlight of Military Emphasis Week is the patriotic convocation, occurring the Wednesday closest to Veteran’s day and featuring patriotic music, veteran testimonies and an inspirational message from a Christian combat veteran. Convocation is always followed with a veteran’s reception which allows for a time of camaraderie and a specially planned menu.
