Military Events - Guest Speaker in Convocation

Military Emphasis Week

Purpose

As a university founded in religious freedom, Liberty University seeks to continually recognize and support our nation’s veteran and current servicemen in the U.S. military.

Military Emphasis Week at Liberty serves to raise awareness and appreciation for the military among students, the community and the nation.

History

An appreciation and passion for the military was established with the vision of the university’s founder, Dr. Jerry Falwell. Falwell consistently led his student body by example, demonstrating patriotism and love of country.

Military Emphasis Week began as a one-day event, and has since grown to the week-long event that it is today including various events and demonstrations increasing the awareness among campus of our dedicated servicemen.

Local military units provide displays, live demonstrations, and interactive opportunities during the week to help students understand the role of the military.

The event features a patriotic convocation, occurring the Wednesday closest to Veteran’s day, featuring patriotic music, veteran testimonies and an inspirational message from a combat veteran. In a personal presentation, a panel of high-ranking military personnel addresses students’ inquiries regarding military life and service.

Over the years the event has grown in impact and is currently used as a recruiting tool for local military recruiters who have the opportunity to discuss military careers with interested students.
