Liberty Proudly Remains a DoD Participating Institution
February 07, 2012 |As one of America’s leading military friendly schools, Liberty University proudly continues to meet U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) standards to offer military Tuition Assistance (TA) to students.
Issued March 15, 2011, the DoD’s policy Instruction Number 1322.25 introduced new criteria for all educational institutions receiving Title X Military TA funds. Participating institutions receiving TA funds and that are accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized agency must sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to remain compliant.
As of Jan. 1, 2012, participating institutions must have signed a MOU with the DoD Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, as well as be posted on the DoD’s “List of Participating Institutions.”
As an institution enrolling servicemembers that use DoD military TA funds to supplement educational costs, Liberty did not hesitate to obtain a MOU in light of the numerous servicemembers studying residentially and online.
In accordance with these new standards, Liberty’s MOU has been signed by the DoD to list the university as a participating institution.
Liberty’s current student population is composed of more than 20,000 servicemembers –approximately one-third of the student body. Continuing to express their support of the military community, Liberty continues to seek DoD compliance to remain a top military-friendly institution.
Assisting servicemembers with tuition costs, TA helps to cover educational expenses for eligible servicemembers. TA offers servicemembers the chance to enroll in courses at a variety of levels, including high school completion, certificates, associates, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs.
