Coast Guard Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance (TA) is a benefit offered to Active Duty service members of the U.S. Coast Guard and eligible Coast Guard Reservists to assist with the cost of tuition. TA typically covers 75% of tuition, up to the $187.50 per credit hour and $3,375 per military fiscal year caps. Our undergraduate tuition rate is $250 per credit hour, which is a discounted rate for our military students.

Benefit Summary

  • TA is available to:
    • Active Duty service members of the U.S. Coast Guard.
    • Coast Guard Reservists who are on long term orders greater than 180 days.
    • Civilian employees are not eligible for this benefit.
  • May cover up to $187.50 per credit hour and $3375 per military fiscal year.
  • Eligible members must be seeking their first associate's, bachelor's, and/or master's degree.
  • TA is not available for doctorate level courses or for a second degree at the same or lower degree level than what they currently hold.
  • Graduate courses with a start date on or after 1 January through 19 February 2014 may be considered for a waiver using the CG Institute waiver process.

How to Enroll

Step 1 - Contact Your Academic Advisor

Your academic advisor will review your account to confirm academic and financial standing and help you in course selection. You can contact an Academic Advisor by calling (800) 424-9595 or by emailing mil@liberty.edu.

Step 2 - Login to ASIST to Register Online  

  • Go to www.liberty.edu/online
  • Click on myLU Sign In
  • Enter your username and password
  • Under My Access, click ASIST
  • Click on Student
  • Click on Registration, then Add or Drop Classes
  • Select a term and follow the online instructions provided to add a course
  • Continue adding until the desired amount of courses has been added to your schedule

Step 3 - Apply for TA

Apply for TA online, using links provided below, or contact your education office on base.  Please make a note of your registration information (course titles, enrollment dates, etc.) as this will be required on the TA application. Once approved, you will receive the authorized form.

Step 4 - Submit TA form to the Office of Military Affairs

Your TA form may be submitted by fax to (434) 455-1287 or scan/email to luomilitary@liberty.edu

TA forms must be submitted prior to completion of financial check-in.

Step 5 - Complete Financial Check-In

The Office of Military Affairs will post the authorized amount of TA to your student account and send you an email to your Liberty University email address. Financial Check-In is the final step to complete the online registration process. 
Note: Please do not complete Financial Check-In until you receive a confirmation email indicating that your TA has been processed.

To complete Financial Check-In:

  • Go to www.liberty.edu/online
  • Click My LU Sign In
  • Under My Access, click ASIST
  • Click Student
  • Click Financial Check-in

Step 6: Once the term is completed, we will submit your grades to the military.
