Course Description

An examination of the structure, function, and pathology of the various body systems and their roles, relevance, and applications in health and illness. The course will employ virtual interactive cadaver dissection technology. The following topics are covered: introduction to the human body; the chemistry of life; the cells, tissues, and organization of the body; the blood; the cardiovascular system; the lymphatic system; the nervous system; the special senses; the endocrine system; and the respiratory system. (Formerly HLTH 201)

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to assist students in gaining knowledge of God’s most amazing creation—the human body. Being familiar with the major structures and the physiological operation of these structures will help provide an educational foundation for a career in a health- related field. In addition, this course will improve the student’s ability to communicate with other individuals working in health-related fields.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt. Each thread must be at least 350 words, include at least 1 peer-reviewed, scientific reference in current APA format, and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to at least 1 classmate’s thread. The reply must be at least 150 words.

Homework Assignments (4)

The student will complete homework assignments through the McGraw Hill platform using the Anatomy & Physiology Revealed resources.

Disease or Disorder Presentation Assignments (2)

This project will be completed in 2 steps:

Disease or Disorder Presentation: Topic and References Assignment

The student will submit a Word document with the presentation topic and a list of at least 3 peer-reviewed references for his/her presentation. The student must include a paragraph explaining why the topic was chosen. The reference list must be in current APA format.

Disease or Disorder Presentation: Final Assignment

The student will create a 15-slide PowerPoint presentation that focuses on 1 disorder or disease process from 1 of the body systems covered in this course. At least 3 peer-reviewed references must be used and cited in current APA format on the last slide.

Quizzes (4)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Modules: Weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 35–47 multiple-choice, true/false, matching, and short essay questions, and have a time limit of 1 hour and 5 minutes.
