Cinematic Arts Center helps finalize DVD feature for Kirk Cameron’s ‘Unstoppable’

As Liberty University prepares to debut filmmaker Kirk Cameron’s latest project “Unstoppable” on Tuesday, Sept. 24, during a live event broadcast from campus, Liberty faculty and students are working to finalize work on the DVD release of the film.

Stephan Schultze, director of Liberty’s Cinematic Arts, Zaki Gordon Center, and Scotty Curlee, assistant professor of cinematic arts, traveled to Cameron’s California home last week to conduct and film interviews for the DVD’s behind the scenes special feature. Among those interviewed were Cameron, the family the film centers on, some key actors, and historian/producer Marshall Foster.

“The best part about this behind-the-scenes project is that Liberty film students will be editing the footage which will appear in the DVD release of the movie,” Schultze said. “It is another example of how Liberty University’s Cinematic Arts, Zaki Gordon Center is integrating with the film industry to provide exceptional opportunities for its film students.”

Editing is expected to be completed by early October. The DVD is set to release in early January.

“Unstoppable” explores some of life’s most difficult questions about suffering and the unstoppable victory of the Gospel throughout history. Cameron is a faithful supporter of Liberty and even shared his enthusiasm for the world’s largest Christian university on live television, when he hosted TBN’s “Praise the Lord” and welcomed Liberty President Jerry Falwell, Jr. as a special guest.

The movie’s premiere event will take place in the Vines Center and simultaneously broadcast to more than 600 theaters nationwide. Due to popular demand, a second showing has been scheduled for Oct. 3 in the same locations.

Cameron will speak at Liberty’s Convocation Monday, Sept. 23.

Students accepted as cinematic arts majors enter an immersion program their junior year, in which they are devoted solely to their filmmaking academia. Every graduate of Liberty’s cinematic arts program will graduate with a completed screenplay, a business plan to market and fund it, a short film they have written and directed, and real-world career experience, including a feature-film credit and work with industry veterans.
