Liberty University’s 2012-13 athletics season ranked as one of the best in Virginia this year as the Flames led all Commonwealth programs with 10 conference championships.
Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) recently released its 2012-13 All-Sports Championship survey and Liberty’s 10 conference titles were tops among Division I athletics programs in the Commonwealth.
This marked the fourth year in a row Liberty has led all Division I programs in Virginia in conference titles won. During the four-year span, Liberty has claimed a total of 34 conference titles (2009-10: 8; 2010-11: 8; 2011-12: 8 and 2012-13: 10).
Liberty was the only NCAA Division I program in the country to capture conference titles in football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball.
Liberty’s 10 conference titles during the 2012-13 athletics year rank second nationally among all NCAA Division I programs. Princeton led the country with 11 of its 31 athletics programs claiming conference titles. Liberty tied for second nationally with Stanford, which has 10 of its 36 varsity programs that have captured conference titles.
