LU’s recruiters get the word out at summer music festivals

Atlanta Fest, June 17-20.

Liberty University national recruiters have hit the road for Summerfest 2009. Throughout the summer teams of LU recruiters are touring Liberty-sponsored Christian music festivals, looking for future Liberty University students.

Recruiter Danny Corprew loosely describes the music festivals as a “Woodstock for Christian kids.” He said the festivals allow recruiters to reach the target market of high school students en masse and draw a variety of people, including students who may have not had Liberty as one of their top choices.

At the overnight festivals, recruiters often work 12-hour days, operating an information booth and giving 90-second plugs for Liberty on stage between acts. Would-be students who visit the Liberty booth and fill out applications are entered into drawings for a guitar, Nintendo Wii and a Liberty scholarship.

Last month, recruiters represented Liberty at youth festivals in North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Canada. After only five festivals, more than 2,500 students have applied to Liberty as a result of this summer recruiting effort.

LU recruiters will be at the following festivals:

  • KingsFest – July 9-11 in Richmond, VA
  • Spirit Song – July 9-11 in Cincinnati, OH
  • Creation West – July 22-25 in George, WA
  • Kingdom Bound – Aug. 2-5 in Buffalo, NY
  • Rock the Universe – Sept. 11-12 in Orlando, FL
  • Christian Music Day – Sept. 19 in Charlotte, NC
