Scaremare still going strong after 35 years

ScareMare has thrilled and chilled more than 300,000 visitors since its inception in 1972, with more than 20,700 taking the spooky tour this year.

Operating the “House of Death,” currently located on Carroll Avenue, takes thousands of volunteer hours and a cast of more than 200 Liberty University students.

Sponsored by the Center for Youth Ministry at Liberty, the evangelistic project produced 1,604 decisions for Christ this year with 352 in one night. Saturday, Oct. 27 marked the largest single night attendance in the history of ScareMare with 4,302 visitors, according to Dr. Steve Vandegriff, the Center for Youth Ministry’s executive director.
