Red Cross honors Falwell’s efforts

Victoria Johnson, executive director of the Historic VA Chapter of the American Red Cross, presented Macel Falwell with a plaque honoring the service of her late husband, Dr. Jerry Falwell, at Wednesday’s convocation.

“This plaque is a very small token of gratitude for his service to the Red Cross and for the community service effort he instilled in all those he left behind,” Johnson said. “Dr. Falwell served the Lord and his community and he will always be remembered for that.”

Johnson said the organization has benefited over the years through Liberty students’ community service projects.

“You should all be proud of the service you provide to make this community such a wonderful place to live,” she said.

Johnson announced the local chapter is in need of volunteers for a demolition at 1100 Sheffield Drive in Lynchburg on Saturday, April 12. The site will be the chapter’s new home. Call (540) 586-7792 for more information.
