Liberty student honored with DeMoss award

Benjamin “Bear” Yarbrough is this year’s recipient of the David Arthur Demoss Award, given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a genuine depth of spirituality, enthusiasm, commitment, active involvement in student cross-cultural ministries and a sincere desire to serve the Lord for the purpose of world evangelism.

The award was presented by Dr. Don Fanning, Director of the Center for Global Ministries, at Wednesday’s end-of-semester convocation service.

Yarbrough majored in Youth Ministries with a minor in Intercultural Studies. He has done mission work in Guatemala, Columbia and an Asian country that is closed to the Gospel. He also backpacked through the Himalayan Mountains distributing Bibles, targeting an unreached people group. He has served as a youth intern at a church in Australia and as a youth pastor in Virginia; he is currently the youth director at Grace Church in Roanoke, Va.

Yarbrough has started the application process to become a full-time missionary with World Venture. He hopes to work with an unreached people group in Mali, West Africa.
