Visitors invited to Virginia Private College Week, July 30-Aug. 4

Visitors to campus for Virginia Private College Week will be the first to receive tours from the new Hancock Welcome Center.

Liberty University will be taking part in Virginia Private College Week, a program sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia. From Monday, July 30, through Saturday, Aug. 4, rising high school juniors and seniors and prospective transfer students who are Virginia residents are invited to visit the university. Application fees for participants will be waived during this time.

“Guests touring Liberty that week will be the first to experience an updated campus tour out of our new state-of-the-art Hancock Welcome Center,” said Ed Parker, assistant director of recruitment at the Welcome Center.

Tours will be conducted Monday through Thursday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., on Friday at 8:45 a.m. (as part of Liberty’s regularly scheduled Friendly Friday event), and on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Visitors will learn about the history, student life, and academic offerings of the university. A special Admissions Session will also be offered for families.

“So often people have an impression of Liberty prior to visiting that is only the tip of the iceberg of what this great university has to offer students,” Parker said. “They discover more of the iceberg as they enjoy a student-led tour of our campus with world-class academic and recreational facilities.”

Gov. Bob McDonnell officially recognized the week. In his proclamation, he said more than 100,000 students attend private colleges in Virginia, which are “not only vehicles of tradition, but centers of learning that reflect the ever-evolving diversity and needs of American life.”

Virginia Private College Week is sponsored by the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan.

Liberty now offers 220 unique programs of study, with tuition remaining among the lowest of Virginia’s private colleges and universities.

Registration is not required for the week, but those interested are asked to call (434) 582-2064 or email visitorscenter@liberty.edu for the program schedule.

Liberty is the world’s largest Christian university, the largest private four-year college in the country, and the largest college in Virginia. Nearly 100,000 students attend classes on its 6,800-acre residential campus and study in its thriving online education program.
