The Second Annual Visiting Artist Exhibit, “Geane Ewing: A Retrospective,” opened Thursday night in Liberty’s Visual Communication Arts Gallery. More than 250 guests, including friends, family and faculty and students of Liberty, had the opportunity to chat with the artist, a longtime friend of Macel Falwell and the late Dr. Jerry Falwell.
Ewing’s connection to Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church began in the 1970s when she was saved under Falwell’s ministry. She attended TRBC for many years until her husband’s employment relocated them to Ashland, Va. Before moving from the area, however, she painted a childhood portrait of Thomas Road’s current senior pastor, the Rev. Jonathan Falwell, which is featured in the show.
Ewing’s work ranges from landscapes, portraits, architecture and religious themes in a variety of media, including oil, watercolor, pastels and acrylic. Her work is in numerous private collections and has received various awards. She says her art is her way “of expressing my love of the Lord.”
