Construction begins on indoor soccer complex

Soccer enthusiasts will soon have a place to play on campus during the winter months.

Crews broke ground on Monday, clearing out an area on Campus North for Liberty’s future indoor soccer complex. The 37,000-square-foot building will be adjacent to the LaHaye Student Union and serve as a multifunctional facility for activities such as flag football and lacrosse. Expected completion for this project is February 2009.

“It’s going to be the biggest thing in Lynchburg as far as indoor soccer facilities,” project manager Adam Szturma said. “Being that it is right adjacent to the fitness center, it just develops that whole area as more of a sports complex.”

Campus buses will no longer be able to use LaHaye Center Road due to the construction. Beginning Friday, all Blue and Orange route buses will provide service to the new bus stop at the Tilley Student Center. Blue and Orange Routes will no longer service the Campus North bus stop next to the Post Office.
