Vice President Cheney to visit VMI prior to LU football game

Liberty University fans who arrive early to Saturday’s football game against VMI in Lexington, Va., will be in for a special surprise. Vice President Dick Cheney will be making his third appearance to the VMI campus during the college’s Military Appreciation Day parade, taking place on the VMI Parade Ground at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.

“Liberty students are certainly invited to attend,” said Lt. Col. Stewart MacInnis of VMI, adding that Cheney will not be attending the game afterward.

According to MacInnis, Cheney will address VMI’s Corps of Cadets, consisting of 1,400 cadets from 45 different states and seven foreign nations, at the formal “review” parade. The combined brass band and bagpipes will also be participating. The parade is scheduled to last 45 minutes.

VMI is offering satellite parking with free shuttle service to the events. The shuttle will be located on the corner of Main and Diamond streets and at the parking lot at Stonewall Square on Route 60 coming into Lexington; it will run continuously from 9 a.m. until the end of the game.
