Liberty University receives $1 million bequest

June 12, 2012 : Liberty University News Service

Liberty University recently received a $1 million bequest from a Georgia man.

The donor passed away in October 2011 at the age of 82. Liberty University was his main beneficiary in his will. Records do not show any previous donations to the university.

According to Everett Foutz, a planned giving officer in Liberty’s Planned Giving Department, the bequest was given in honor of the donor’s mother and brother. He said the man spent a lot of time overseas in government service and was interested in missions work. The bequest will go toward a perpetual scholarship for students pursuing missions at Liberty.

Foutz said the department is unaware if the man ever visited campus. Although Foutz had spoken with him on the phone a few times, he never visited him in his home.

“He was a very private individual. He followed Dr. Jerry Falwell on television and was impressed with the school and students and especially what we stand for,” Foutz said.
