Thousands enjoy Snowflex on Community Outreach Day

The Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre gave the community a chance to beat the heat on Saturday as it hosted its first Community Outreach Day. The slopes were open and free to the public, and bounce houses and a large waterslide were available for people to cool off and get their first taste of summer.

According to Drew Sherwood, general manager of the Snowflex Centre, more than 2,000 people came through the doors, the majority of them experiencing the facility for the first time. Families came from as far as Appomattox and Danville.

“The weekend was very successful,” Sherwood said. “We created a waterpark theme; we had very positive feedback, and to be able to give it out for free and to see these kids excited and smiling … it was a joy to our staff to be able to see that.”

Sherwood hopes to have at least two more community outreach days this summer in addition to the annual summer camps that begin June 25. Day camp runs June 25-29 and one-week overnight camps run July 7-Aug. 3. According to Sherwood, three of the overnight camp weeks are full, but there are still a few spots available for the July 22-26.
