At Wednesday’s convocation, Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. introduced Lynchburg-area residents Tom DeWitt, Terry Dobyns and Richard Chaffin, who recently donated the 112-acre Ivy Lake in nearby Forest, Va., to the university.
DeWitt said after graduating from Liberty in 1979, he went into real estate and Liberty gave him his first sale. Later, with the help of Liberty, he received his biggest sale: the tract of land that now houses Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart. Through the recent donation of Ivy Lake, DeWitt said he wanted to thank Liberty for helping to guide him in his career.
“It’s just amazing how God has worked in our lives, and God had given us the opportunity to return something back to Liberty,” he said.
