Two Iowa alumni die from car accident
The Liberty University community is asked to pray for the family of two alumni who died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Saturday, Feb. 4, near Tiffin, Iowa.
Mickey Murray, 47, and his wife Julie, 46, of Wellman, Iowa, received their bachelor’s degrees in Youth Ministries from Liberty in 1988 and 1987, respectively. Mick was a co-pastor at Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona, Iowa, and Julie was a substitute associate at Mid-Prairie High School.
A memorial service will be held at the school at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 11.
The church released this statement on its website: “Our congregation is indeed saddened by this tragedy. We covet your prayers for their four children, their extended families, and the countless other people in our congregation and community who were impacted by Mick & Julie's ministry.”
The Murrays' children are ages 20, 18, 16 and 14. Their oldest attended Liberty in 2010 and records show another has considered attending Liberty after she graduates high school this year.
A memorial fund has been established in the family’s name at Hills Bank in Wellman. Messages may be sent to the family at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
