Students support Christmas shoebox project

For more than a decade, Liberty University students, faculty and staff have participated in Operation Christmas Child (OCC), filling shoeboxes with small gifts and necessities for impoverished children around the world.

Last year, the Liberty community donated more than 1,200 shoebox gifts.

Boxes are being collected on campus through Friday, Nov. 18, when they will be taken to a local collection site.

“At Liberty University we seek to reach the community both locally and nationally,” said campus pastor Chris Deitsch. “Operation Christmas Child is something practical that students can learn and practice here and continue this tradition every year, anywhere they go in the United States, impacting the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Liberty’s project is organized through the Liberty Champion student newspaper, with the cooperation of various departments and organizations on campus.

OCC began in 1993 and is operated by Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization led by Franklin Graham.
