Wild West extravaganza ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ blasts into Tower Theater

Liberty University’s Department of Theatre Arts is ending its spring season with a bang as the Wild West classic “Annie Get Your Gun” ropes audiences to the Tower Theater stage, starting Friday night.

The production, accompanied by Irving Berlin’s sensational score, follows the early years of legendary sharpshooter Annie Oakley as she joins Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. As Oakley rises to become the show’s main attraction, she and Frank Butler, another marksman, collide in a rivalry fueled by ego and romantic chemistry.

“The characters in this show are sharp-witted and full of life,” said Associate Professor of Theatre Arts Andy Geffken, who directs the musical. “Those unfamiliar with the music and script will be pleasantly surprised by how funny the writing is and how beautiful the music is.”

A massive production, “Annie Get Your Gun” features 34 cast members, 19 crew members, and an 18-piece orchestra. The set design includes more than 15 original paintings, recreating the vibrant, colorful world of Wild West showmanship.

Show times for “Annie Get Your Gun” are April 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 at 7:30 p.m.; April 13, 20, 27 at 2 p.m.; and April 28 at 3 p.m. (ASL performance). To purchase tickets, visit Liberty.edu/Tickets or call 434-582-SEAT (7328) during weekday business hours.
