March Madness: Flames set to play Virginia Tech in second round

The No.12-seed Liberty University’s men’s basketball team erased a 10-point second-half deficit to record the most historic win in athletics department history, Friday night at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The Flames upset No. 5 seed Mississippi State, 80-76, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament’s East Region.

The triumph pushes Liberty (29-6) into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four “March Madness” appearances. The Flames will face No. 4 seed Virginia Tech on Sunday at 7:10 p.m. (EST) at the SAP Center. The Hokies advanced to Sunday’s match following a 66-52 win over No. 13 seed Saint Louis later on Friday evening. A few thousand Flames fans flocked to the Vines Center to watch the game live, witnessing the thrilling victory from nearly 3,000 miles away.
