Three more Flames players selected in MLB Draft

Three more Liberty University Baseball players were selected on Wednesday’s final day of the 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft.

The Cleveland Indians drafted right-handed pitcher Jack DeGroat in the 11th round, the Los Angeles Dodgers picked catcher Tre Todd in the 21st round, and the New York Yankees took right-handed pitcher Jackson Bertsch in the 29th round.

On Tuesday, outfielder D.J. Artis was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 7th round with the 218th overall pick, the Flames’ highest draftee since 2004. Liberty has now had 68 players drafted in the 45-year history of its program.

DeGroat, who sat out his senior season due to injury, became the first-ever Flames player drafted by Cleveland with the 433rd overall pick. Todd, a junior, follows two former Flames drafted by the Dodgers — Sid Bream in the second round in 1981 and Tim Harrell in the 20th round in 1998. Bertsch was selected by the Yankees with the 877th overall pick.
