Swimmers set to compete in NCAA Championships on Friday and Saturday
For the second time in the program’s eight-year history, Liberty University’s Women’s Swimming & Diving team will send more than one student-athlete to this week’s NCAA Division I Championships, hosted by Ohio State University at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
Junior Alicia Finnigan, who placed 31st in the 200 butterfly and 50th in the 100 fly at last year’s NCAA Division I meet, will become only the second Lady Flames swimmer to compete in multiple NCAA championships. She will be joined by freshman Payton Keiner, who is the second Liberty freshman selected to swim in the national event.
Finnigan, who punched her ticket to nationals with her performance at the inaugural Liberty Last Chance Meet held Feb. 24 at the new Liberty Natatorium, will compete in the 100 fly on Friday and the 200 fly on Saturday.
Keiner, who holds the Liberty and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) conference records in the 200 backstroke (1 minute, 53.29 seconds), will swim in the 100 back on Friday and the 200 back the following night.
ESPNU will broadcast the championship finals session Friday starting at 5 p.m. (EST) with Saturday’s finals session streamed live by ESPN3 starting at 6 p.m. See the full meet schedule on the NCAA website.
