Christmas Coffeehouse brings a little bit of home to the Vines Center

The annual Christmas Coffeehouse, held late Saturday night in the Vines Center, reminded students that there’s no place like home — and no place like Liberty University — as they took a break from studying to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with over 8,000 of their peers.

The theme for the late-night Student Activities event was “Snow Place Like Home.”

“There’s something really special about being home for Christmas and getting to spend that time with your family,” said Stephanie Ward, director of Student Activities. “This year we wanted to hone in on that, so all of our decorations around the concourse, floor, and stage highlighted this feeling of being home on Christmas.”

Students had the opportunity to take photos along the concourse with interactive scenes, including a cozy living room and an outdoor sledding setup.

As always, Christmas Coffeehouse showcased the talent of Liberty students, with acts that included some of the most popular and beloved Christmas songs, from “Little Drummer Boy” and “Silent Night” to a rendition of Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe.”

A variety of student-made videos were also featured, such as an “Elf” parody and a hijinks video of Santa taking items from students around campus.

“There was an abundance of talent packed into the two-hour show,” Ward said.

Christmas Coffeehouse stands as Liberty’s largest ticketed event of the year and has become one of its most cherished traditions. A team puts in hours of work and relies on a number of other departments to make it a success.

“Coffeehouse is such a longstanding tradition on Liberty’s campus that has grown from hundreds to thousands in its years of existence,” Ward said. “Our team works tirelessly for months to make this show come together as it’s such an integral part of our program and the lives of so many.”

The show certainly came together and gave students that extra push they needed to get through final exams, which begin this week, before heading home for winter break. The fall semester officially ends on Friday, Dec. 22.

The date for Liberty’s Spring Coffeehouse is April 14, and the theme is yet to be announced.

Student Activities offers more than 100 events each school year, including concerts, movie nights, art expos, and campus favorites such as Coffeehouse and Block Party.
