The Liberty University School of Aeronautics flight team won the National Intercollegiate Flying Association regional competition for the sixth consecutive year in late October.

The event, hosted by Caldwell Community College in Hickory, NC., featured 50 students, representing four colleges from Virginia and North Carolina.

The competition included flight planning, navigation, simulator practice, aircraft recognition, preflight inspection and precision landing events.

“We look forward to competing at the national competition hosted by Ohio State University in May 2011,” said Ernie Rogers, assistant dean of LU’s School of Aeronautics.

Liberty’s flight team was also awarded the first-place Safety trophy, representing excellence in safe aircraft and airport operations, as well as the Red Baron Team Sportsmanship award.
