Students defend unborn in March for Life interview

Last Friday, Liberty University sent 100 students in two buses to the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., where they joined hundreds of thousands taking a stand for the unborn.

During the day, three students were interviewed by Alliance Defending Freedom, where Liberty student Hannah Scherlacher shared how she had a personal connection to the pro-life movement.

She said when her grandmother was 13 years old she learned she was pregnant with Scherlacher’s mother. Due to her Middle Eastern heritage, Scherlacher said her grandmother would have been killed through an honor killing if anyone found out she was pregnant. But her grandmother was able to flee and gave up Scherlacher’s mother to an Israeli orphanage where she was eventually adopted by Scherlacher’s grandfather, who was able to bring the child back to the United States.

Now, Scherlacher said she feels compelled to use her voice to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

“I’m honored and blessed to be a part of this,” she said. “I’m excited to see the next couple years and how our generation can rise up.”

For Daniel Degner, it was his first time participating in the March For Life.

“It’s just amazing to see that voice for life, that voice for Christ, is strong here today,” he said during the interview.

Chad Higgenbottom said it was exciting to be in Washington and to be surrounded by so many people who want to see change.

“There’s just something extremely special about being part of …  such a groundbreaking movement,” Higgenbottom said.
