Stock car driver and NASCAR commentator Michael Waltrip joined Byron at his residence hall, at the new Montview Student Union, in a classroom in DeMoss Hall, and on a walk through Williams Stadium, home of the Flames Football team, discussing life at Liberty and how the young driver balances his racing career and studies.
Currently, Byron is gearing up for the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Raceway, the final race in the Chase 2016 Round of 6. After finishing first in the Round of 8, Byron is in second placing going into Friday’s race where he will look to secure a spot in the Championship 4. Byron is likely to win Rookie of the Year, with 10 top-five showings, including a rookie-record six wins through 21 races this season.
Byron recently signed a development deal with Hendrick Motorsports to race for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series next year.
