A record-breaking crowd of about 9,000 is expected on campus this weekend for Homecoming 2016. (See schedule below.) Thousands of Liberty University alumni will return to Lynchburg to reconnect with former friends and mentors, tour many new buildings on campus, and cheer on their Flames.
Plenty of exciting activities are planned for the whole family, with special discounts offered for alumni who register. Alumni can check in as early as Thursday, in time to catch Christian pop/rock legends Switchfoot and Relient K perform on their “Looking for America” tour in the Vines Center at 7:30 p.m. They are also invited to join Convocation on Friday morning, featuring former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann. Hayride tours will be offered on Friday evening and Saturday morning and a family festival with rides, food, and live music from the Liberty Worship Collective will be held both days on the new Academic Commons Lawn. New this year will be a retro video game arcade in the Jerry Falwell Library Terrace Conference Room.
Flames fans can show their support at ice hockey matchups on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and at the Liberty Football matchup with Monmouth University, kicking off at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The annual Homecoming parade will take place at 1 p.m.
