Community fair welcomes students

Despite the heat, humidity and an afternoon downpour, incoming freshmen and their families descended upon campus Wednesday to check out their new surroundings and meet new classmates. Most made their way to the Vines Center for the annual Community Fair hosted by Liberty’s Career Center. About 75 area businesses and churches exhibited to welcome the newcomers. Attendees were treated to pizza, cake, peanuts and other vendor goodies, and were offered opportunities to serve and even rides to church.

Christine Langford came all the way from Ripon, Calif., to study nursing because she said Liberty was “the only school where she felt really comfortable.”

Freshman Mariana Capano, most recently from Germantown, Md., plans to study psychology. Having attended a College for a Weekend, she said the “God-centered environment” was a major factor that drew her, and that some of her friends graduated from Liberty.

Freshman activities continue today and tomorrow in anticipation of the fall semester, which begins Monday.
