‘Henry V’ invites guests to celebrate victory

Liberty University’s Department of Theatre Arts will take audiences on a conquest for victory as it tells the Shakespearean story of “Henry V” and his campaign to win the crown of France. “Henry V” opens Thursday and runs through June 1 at the Tower Theater, with performances each day (excluding May 29) at 7:30 p.m.

Considered to be one of Shakespeare’s greatest historical verse dramas, “Henry V” focuses on Henry’s preparations before the Battle of Agincourt and the consequences he faces after. Henry must also face the aggressive French army and a charming French princess.

Neal Brasher, director of the show, said this play is one of Shakespeare’s most well-known stories because it has been presented by many highly successful directors.

“This has always been one of my favorite Shakespeare plays, and I have enjoyed introducing the actors to it,” he said.

Brasher added that the show is unique because it employs the use of chorus narration to help the audience understand what is happening throughout the performance.

“I hope that audience members will find that Shakespeare’s history plays can be just as fun and exciting as other shows we bring to the stage,” he said. “Audiences will also see the most important aspect of the play, which is the triumph of the human spirit as ordinary people endure extraordinary trials and overcome them.”

  • “Henry V” runs May 26- June 1 with six performances. Showtimes and tickets are available through the Tower Theater website or by calling the Liberty Ticket Office at (434) 582-7328.
