The contest received 104,781 votes and featured 82 categories. There were 410 winners ranging from gold, silver, and bronze to honorable mention.
Liberty’s Tower Theater received a gold ranking in the best live theater category. Since the theater opened in the fall of 2010, residents of Central Virginia have enjoyed Broadway-caliber performances in their own backyard. Every season, a variety of professional and academic performances wow audiences with powerful stories, magical effects, and memorable song and dance numbers. Upcoming shows include “Brigadoon,” Feb. 19-28; “Steel Magnolias,” March 25-April 3; “Beauty and the Beast,” April 29-May 15; and “Henry V,” May 26-June 1.
Additionally, Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre received a gold ranking in the best view of the city category. Located on Liberty’s 5,000-acre mountain, Snowflex features beginner, intermediate, and advanced slopes for year-round skiing, snowboarding, and tubing as well as a two-story lodge. Visitors can also utilize The Liberty Mountain Trail System, which consists of over 50 miles of single and double track trails.
Voters also gave Liberty’s Art Gallery a silver ranking in the best art studio category. The art gallery was moved from the fourth floor of DeMoss Hall to its new location near the Tower Theater in Green Hall, Room 1955, over the summer. Hours are typically 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday. Private tours are available. Upcoming events include a faculty exhibit featuring Monique Maloney, running Jan. 21–Feb. 13.
