Christmas Coffeehouse gets students in the holiday spirit

Liberty University students celebrated the Christmas season, and the end of the semester, with a late night of holiday entertainment in the Vines Center beginning Dec. 11 and running well into the wee hours of the following day.

Sponsored by Student Activities, Coffeehouse is held once a semester and features student talent in music, dance, and video production.

Chris Misiano, senior director of Campus Recreation, said that Coffeehouse has become a true Christmas tradition that Student Activities loves to provide for the university community.

“Each year, the talent of the students at Liberty University amazes me,” he said. “For this Christmas Coffeehouse, it happened yet again as we were able to put on an energetic, diverse show that thousands of people were able to enjoy. I am very proud of the Student Activities staff who spent so much time with tryouts, preparing decorations, and transforming the Vines Center.”

This year’s Coffeehouse was themed, “Fa-la-la-la,” focusing on original covers of classic Christmas music. Acts caroled and jingled classic holiday tunes including “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Mary, Did You Know?,” “Blue Christmas,” and “Baby Please Come Home.”

Two lip-sync battles were also conducted during the night as pairs of students faced off performing Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas is You” and “Little Drummer Boy,” respectively. Students voted for their favorite contestants with their cellphones.

A live Twitter feed was also projected on the screens, giving students an opportunity to share feedback on the performances throughout the night.
