Liberty University Online enrolls 50,000th student

Liberty University is celebrating another milestone – 50,000 students are now taking classes through Liberty University Online.

This is the second 50,000-student milestone this semester – in January, Liberty marked 50,000 students taking classes on campus and online, fulfilling one of Dr. Jerry Falwell’s visions for the university.

“Dad originally had a goal of 5,000 students,” Liberty Chancellor and President Jerry Falwell, Jr. said earlier this semester. “Elmer Towns [Liberty co-founder and dean of the School of Religion] has often told the story about how that vision changed almost overnight when my father suddenly declared that Liberty would one day enroll 50,000 students.”

There are nearly 12,000 residential students taking class on Liberty’s campus in Lynchburg, Va. Now with nearly 62,000 students, Liberty is the world’s largest Christian university, the nation’s largest private school and one of the top 10 degree-granting schools in the United States.
