As rain poured outside, comedian Tim Hawkins entertained the student body in the Vines Center during Liberty University Convocation on Friday.

Hawkins, a nationally renowned comedian, sells out over 100 shows per year. He has more than half a million Facebook fans and over 300 million online video views.

The father of four from St. Louis, Mo., made a memorable entrance when he picked up Senior Vice President for Spiritual Development David Nasser and carried him around the stage.

Hawkins left no region unscathed as he joked about natives from Minnesota to Michigan and West Virginia.

During his animated performance, Hawkins had the Vines Center crowd roaring with laughter as he interacted with the audience and delivered punch line after punch line. He even sang a few satirical songs.

Hawkins emphasized the importance of laughter, saying that God created it to enrich our lives.

“I so appreciate David (Nasser) just opening up this environment of fun,” Hawkins said. “God is fun; He isn’t a buzzkill guys. God isn’t sitting up above going after people who are having fun. He wants you to live, laugh, eat, dance. It’s so fun to hang out with you and laugh. That’s my favorite thing, I’m addicted to laughter.”

Hawkins will perform Friday night at the EWomen Conference in Roanoke, Va.
