Students to serve the nations during Spring Break

During Spring Break, March 6-13, Liberty University students will be traveling overseas on trips coordinated by The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) and serving stateside through the Center for Ministry Training (CMT). They will be gaining valuable life experience while enriching the lives of others.

The CGE will be sending out 150 students and leaders to 11 countries, including Bosnia, the Balkans, Cebu, East Africa, the Middle East, Ghana, the Philippines, Southeast Asia, Spain, Thailand, and West India. Student teams will assist children with disabilities, provide education, help with various building projects, and work with college ministries.

During Wednesday’s Convocation, group leaders from each of the teams prayed for safety and that student’s lives would be changed after their experience.

The GGE released a statement saying, “It is exciting to see how God uses these global experiences to grow our students to become more like Jesus. Team leaders and students will be all over the world this week coming alongside the work that God is doing in various countries, and they will help serve and seek to further those projects.”

The CMT will also be sending out 110 students from various degree programs to meet needs in American communities, including Baltimore, Md.; Washington, D.C.; Panama City, Fla.; New Orleans, La.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Los Angeles and San Francisco, Calif.; and Portland, Ore. During these trips, students will work alongside local churches and ministries to help sex trafficking victims and the homeless. They will also minister in urban churches and on Capitol Hill.

Scott Macleod, the CMT’S director, said that the purpose of these trips is to give students experience in fulfilling the Great Commission.

“We partner with local churches and ministries that are involved in their communities, giving Liberty students a well balanced experience,” he said. “There are many students who have not traveled much outside of their home area and Lynchburg so when they go to these communities, they see firsthand how different the cultures across the country can be.”
