Bishop from Rwanda invites students to study abroad

Bishop Amooti from Rwanda encouraged Liberty University nursing students to study abroad on Friday.

The Center for Student Travel hosted Bishop Rusengo Nathan Amooti from Rwanda, Africa on Friday, as part of a collaboration to educate students about ways they can serve abroad in the country.

The center provides opportunities for students to travel to various countries while integrating their faith. It also assists faculty and administration in promoting travel programs both domestically and abroad. The center works closely with strategic partners to provide unique training resources that provide for students both academically and professionally.

Bishop Amooti has been a key partner with the center, helping facilitate trips taken by Department of Psychology, Center for Counseling & Family Studies, and School of Nursing students to Rwanda. Students are sent twice a year to work with Amooti. On these trips they learn about the history and current events of the country while assisting its people.

Amooti, who manages three hospitals in his country, met with the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the School of Health Sciences to discuss further partnerships to bring medical and health students to Rwanda. He spoke to nursing students about an opportunity to provide care to Rwandans during a trip planned for December.

“It means the world to me when we have students from Liberty come to our country and partner with us to assist the people of Rwanda,” Amooti said.

He added that he enjoys sharing his culture with Liberty students.

“I want to educate students,” he said. “It is important to introduce them to another part of the world where people are doing different things with different resources not offered in (America). This partnership with Liberty has helped me accomplish this.”

All week, Liberty has been celebrating Global Focus Week, encouraging students to explore ways that they can take their degree global.
